Packard’s look was dated, since it first had aired in 1951. That’s why Dick Teague was given the brief to update it, possibly without spending much money. Luckily the 1955 400 represented a major achievement, basically a re-skin on what had gone before it was a magnificent automobile. Somehow like Jonny Cash’s Folstom Prison Blues recorded with reluctance by Sun Records and one of his biggest success. Sadly 1956 would see the last of the real Packards before decorated Studebakers tried and failed to live up to what had been a glorious heritage.
